Diablo 2 is a production that went down in the annals of gaming history and became a model for other developers trying their hand at the hack'and'slash genre. After more than 20 years, Blizzard Entertainment studio decided to release a remaster of the cult production for many players, introducing additional improvements and modern graphic design. Diablo 2: Resurrected includes both the base game and the Lord of Destruction expansion pack.
Storyline
Diablo 2: Resurrected doesn't differ from the original story and takes us on an adventure in five acts, in which we travel through the barbarian city of Harrogath at the top of Mount Arreat, the desert areas around the Lut Gholein settlement, or the Pandemonium Fortress. We still have one goal in mind, which is to get rid of Diablo - the titular Lord of Terror, who was not finally annihilated, and now not only has possessed Prince Aidan, but also plans to liberate the rest of his infernal siblings in order to finally gain power over mankind.
Gameplay
The gameplay in Diablo 2: Resurrected starts with choosing one of the 7 available character classes, such as necromancer, amazon, barbarian, paladin and sorceress, as well as assassin and druid. Each of them has different skills and gameplay requires different tactics as well as the allocation of points in statistics. Only then do we begin the adventure in the world of Sanctuary, in which we fight against hordes of hostile hosts as well as murderous bosses.
Just like the storyline, the gameplay itself does not differ from the original version of the game. Not counting a few improvements, such as more space in the chest (10x10 grid boxes instead of 6x8), automatic gold raising, clearer interface, seasonal rankings and the ability to share items between our characters, including those created on other platforms.
Multiplayer
Diablo II: Resurrected is designed to be played both solo and in multiplayer mode for up to 8 players ("closed" Battle.net variant, with character saved on server); Open Battle.net (with character saved on disk) and tcp/ip variants were not available at the time of release.
Changes
Most of the changes came from the need to bring the title up to today's standards. Diablo 2: Resurrected features full 3D rendering with dynamic lighting, supports 4k resolution, and has received revamped and improved spell effects, character animations, and step-by-step cinematics for higher resolutions. The audio track has also been improved, with 7.1 audio quality implemented and immersive sound effects added. However, if players prefer the classic look of the production, there is nothing to prevent them from returning to 2D mode using an option available in the game. The game also offers support for mods.
What is important, Blizzard developers announced that Diablo 2 remaster will not repeat the controversial solution used in Warcraft 3 Reforged and refreshed edition of the game will function alongside the original one and will not replace it.
